I love the beautiful old house and the big rooms.
That the fireplace in the Dawning Room, in snow and cold now also during my second stay, was not lit, although it is advertised.

We booked this hotel a few weeks in advance as we were attending a wedding reception there in the evening. Our room was extremely spacious, but what looked at first like a king-sized bed was in fact 2 singles pushed together and the bathroom fittings were quite dated. The hotel buildings are very nice and it is a beautiful location, but compared to previous experiences, we did not feel that the quality of the room and service received justified the high price paid (£100), especially as breakfast was not included. Before dinner, the majority of hotel staff were (pre)occupied with looking after the wedding breakfast - we were told that someone would take our order from the other room next to the bar (which was in use by the wedding), but noone came. Dinner was reasonable and well-presented, but expensive for the quality (£35 each for one glass of wine and 2 courses) and we missed the first part of the reception as we were unable to get dinner before the reception started (7.30).

Warm welcome on arrival, friendly & pleasant staff, large room clean & tidy, hotel in nice location overlooking fields.
First stayed at this hotel 10 yrs ago, nothing has changed, hotel (though clean) needs a bit of a revamp, decor a bit tired, had a room overlooking front of hotel, woke up at 1-30 by guests returning from night out and could not gain entry to hotel, also delivery's in the morning started at 6-30 (on a bank holiday) and it was a quiet room.
